SEMS softball rolls past in-county foes

The South Effingham Middle School Lady Mustangs started off the 2010 softball season victories over Effingham County Middle School 8-1 and Ebenezer Middle School 10-0 in the regional pre-season tournament held on Aug. 13 at Effingham County Middle School. Olivia Laverenz pitched four innings against ECMS, allowing four hits and striking out one. Erika Griffin pitched an inning in relief.  

Ansley Brown and Rami Jo Mesmer led the offense for the Lady Mustangs, each going 3-for-4 with two runs, a double and one RBI. Taylor Ross added to the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and on RBI, and Naomi Sapp, Alexis Studier, Dani Heald and Olivia Laverenz added to the RBI total. Summer Lewis and Erika Griffin also added to the hit tally.

In the second game of the evening, Mesmer took the pitching rubber against Ebenezer Middle School, throwing a two-hit shutout in the Lady Mustang victory. Studier led the offense going 2-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in three with a double. Ross maintained a hot bat, going 2-for-3 and scoring two runs with a double. Heald went 2-for-3 with a run, Autumn Conaway had a double and one RBI, and Sapp and Loren Moss also added hits to the Lady Mustang offense.
