Powered by their seniors on Senior Night, the South Effingham Lady Mustangs peppered Wayne County with hit after hit for the second straight day Thursday.

Twenty-four hours after pounding 16 hits in a 7-1 Region 2-AAAAA win in Jesup, South Effingham tallied  13 hits in an 8-3 victory at home Friday to improve to 18-4 overall and 7-1 in the region.

Allie Ergle led the assault with three hits. Alexa Johanson, ReAnn McCloy and Rachel Mixed each added two hits.

Alex Brown chipped in one hit and three RBI. The other base knocks were collected by Hailey Pinette (1 RBI), Emily Laverenz and Cheyenne Miller.

Winning pitcher Kastin Belogorska recorded seven strikeouts without issuing a free pass.

Before the game, South Effingham's seniors -- McCloy, Miller, Emily Laverenz, Belogorska, Johanson, Mixon and Ergle -- were honored in a special ceremony.

In addition, team members released blue balloons in honor of former classmate Jake Sapp, who died with two other men in a recent traffic accident in Pulaski County. The Lady Mustangs were joined by Sapp family members and friends.
