Two Lady Mustangs make GACA's all-state first team

Two South Effingham Lady Mustangs have been named to the Class AAA all-state first team, released by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association on Monday.

Senior outfielder Ciara Knowles and junior infielder Katie Rietkovich earned first-team honors, while teammate Alison Kirkland was named to the second team. Senior catcher Crystal Sellers and junior pitcher Sally Faircloth were named as honorable mention.

Knowles hit .305 and drove in 17 runs in 95 at-bats this season. She had four doubles and on-base percentage of .397.

Rietkovich led the Lady Mustangs with a batting average of .385 and on-base percentage of .480. She also led the team with three homers, six doubles and 32 runs scored. Rietkovich drove in 19 runs.

Kirkland, the school all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched and earned run average, was 8-9 with 1.33 ERA this season. She struck out 152 batters in 100 innings.

Faircloth went 10-4 in the circle with an ERA of 0.89, striking out 80 in 86 1/3 innings.

Sellers made just three errors in 32 games and hit .275 with 13 RBIs.

State champions Blessed Trinity had three first-team selections and two second-team players.
