On Saturday evening, South Effingham Middle School held its second annual Miss SEMS pageant with 19 young ladies competing for the title. This year’s theme was “Surfer Girls.”

Christy Hutchings with WTOC was the emcee. Brittany Lee from Brits Dance Company choreographed the opening number performed by the contestants.

Christina Jones was crowned Miss SEMS. First runner up was Logan Thibodeaux. Second runner up was Hadley Jeffers. Miss Eighth grade was Kelsey Crosby; Miss Seventh Grade was Megan Johnson; Miss Sixth Grade was Kailyn Bowen. Miss Congeniality was Megan Johnson and most photogenic was Jessie Rimsek.

Other awards were given to the girl who had the highest score in each category of competition. The highest teacher recommendation went to Kandice Nelson and Hadley Jeffers. Highest Business wear score went to Christina Jones. Highest evening gown score went to Logan Thibodeaux. Highest question on the stage score went to Christina Jones. The highest GPA award went to Kandice Nelson.
