Rogers plans to quote Philippians

Dr. Bob Rogers will present Paul’s Letter to the Philippians from memory, in Biblical costume, at First Baptist Church of Rincon on Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.

The scripture will be presented as a drama with live actors. Rogers will play the part of the apostle Paul, and additional actors will portray Roman guards and Paul’s Christian associates, Timothy and Epaphroditus. Rogers will portray Paul as he dictates the letter to Timothy and at one point discusses what he is writing with Epaphroditus.

This is not the first time Rogers has presented scripture from memory. In 2006, Rogers memorized the Sermon on the Mount and presented it as a drama. However, Rogers said that Philippians has been more difficult.

“Paul writes in long sentences, adding prepositional phrase to prepositional phrase, so learning Philippians took many months of listening to it over and over,” Rogers said. “Philippians is an amazing letter, because Paul wrote it from prison, yet he talks again and again about rejoicing in the Lord. My prayer is that by hearing it spoken aloud, people will hear God’s encouragement in a fresh way, despite whatever trouble they may be facing.”

The program is free and the public is invited. Child care for children 3-years-old and younger is provided at the church. To order a DVD of the program, or for more information, call 826-5536 or check the church Web site, www.fbcrincon.com.
