First Saturday Festival to hit River Street

It’s time again for River Street’s First Saturday on the River and this Saturday promises more than just arts and crafts.

Because it’s also Kentucky Derby time, festival organizers are hosting their own version with the River Street Stick Pony Derby. Come early and enter to race. Judging will begin at 5 p.m. and prizes will be awarded.

The World Harmony Run, a global torch relay, will also be on hand on the plaza as Savannah is one of the stops along a 45,000-mile journey through 100 countries. Run officials will be on stage at 1 p.m. to get the Savannah stop under way.

And it wouldn’t be First Saturday without all the wonderful and talented artists and craftsmen who exhibit and sell their items each month along Savannah’s beautiful waterfront plaza. Items for sale typically range from simple children’s toys to wearables, from original paintings and photography to jewelry and ceramics creations.

D.J.’s to Go will provide non stop music during the day and delicious treats like Ripicci’s Italian Ice, Kettle Korn and the all new River Street Fritzer will be tempting you as you stroll along the promenade. The Festival is free to the public and is hosted by the nonprofit Savannah Waterfront Association.
