United Way of the Coastal Empire has chosen to fund America’s Second Harvest’s mobile food pantry (MFP) program to provide services to Bryan, Effingham and Liberty counties.
This food distribution program delivers bulk food directly to low-income neighborhoods, where residents may lack transportation to food assistance, or underserved communities where food pantries are limited or lack adequate storage facilities for large quantities of food.
The program’s target populations include low-income families, seniors and homeless individuals. With the funding UWCE is providing ($6,000), ASH will conduct two MFPs, each intending to serve 300-350 persons, in all three of these counties before the end of the year, with an overall target of 8,000 served across all counties by year-end.
