Effingham County residents soon may be able to pay for new car tags and pay their property taxes seated in front of their home computer.

County commissioners approved agreements with Sturgis Web Service, Pay Pal, Official Payment Corporation and the state Department of Revenue to enable Effingham citizens to renew car tags and pay property tax bills online.

The ability to pay for car tags online could be available as soon as Jan. 1 and property owners could be able to pay their taxes online in about two months, according to Tax Commissioner Linda McDaniel.
