County approves jail agreement

Effingham County commissioners have approved a twice-tabled jail agreement with the three municipalities.

Under the agreement, one of the several elements of the service delivery strategy county and city representatives struggled to solve for months, the cities will impose a 10 percent fee on fines and penalties to pass on to the county for its jail service, rather than be charged a per diem rate for the prisoners.

“This is the first intergovernmental agreement in the service delivery agreements,” County Administrator David Crawley said.
