Mustangs mash Phoenix in doubleheader

The South Effingham Mustangs swept New Hampstead's Phoenix 7-1 and 8-2 in a Region 2-AAAAA baseball doubleheader in Guyton on Thursday.

The Mustangs collected 18 hits in the two games.

Wesley Ambrose and Doug Williams had two hits apiece in the opener. Ambrose turned the trick again in the nightcap, as did Caleb Radcliffe and Jake Sapp.

The winning pitcher in game one was Josh Berg. He allowed one run and two hits while doing the distance. He fanned six.

Jakob Valleroy earned the win in game two. He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and three hits with six strikeouts.
