SPRINGFIELD – The fingerprints of progress will soon be left all over Baker Park.

The facility at 216 Courthouse Rd. is set to receive numerous improvements starting this summer. These include resurfacing/repairing of the concrete trail around Baker Pond, the addition of two pickleball courts next to the existing tennis courts, upgrading and expansion of the boat/kayak launch and dock, renovation of the bathrooms and picnic gazebo area, and enhancements to the existing playground.

Plans, currently near the end of the design phase, also call for paving and drainage improvements in the parking area. A small parking lot will be added near the tennis and pickleball courts, too.

Baker Park ranks second only to the Clarence E. Morgan Complex as the busiest park in the county. Its primary drawing card is the nearly one-mile walking trail around Baker Pond.
