Real estate company buys pair of Springfield buildings
Sherman and Hemstreet

SPRINGFIELD — Sherman and Hemstreet Real Estate Company announced Monday that it has purchased two buildings in downtown Springfield. They are located at 123 and 125 S. Laurel St.  

Sherman & Hemstreet has occupied the building at 125 S. Laurel since June 2017 when it purchased the local real estate brokerage firm Southern Georgia Homes LLC.  In addition to purchasing the historic office building located at the corner of South Laurel and East Second Street, S&H has purchased the 7,040 square foot building located next door.

The 1,800 square foot office at 125 South Laurel was renovated in 2015 by Dee Moncrief, who is the local managing broker for Sherman & Hemstreet.

 S&H plans to upgrade the appearance and facade of the 123 South Laurel St. building, which currently has four tenants.  The buildings are direct across the street from the City of Springfield government offices.

Joe Edge, president of Sherman and Hemstreet, said: “Purchasing these two buildings cements our commitment to Effingham County and the surrounding areas. We chose to plant our flag in Springfield to be part of the growth that has been occurring in the area. The office is central to Effingham County. We are also asking the public to submit to us any historic pictures they may have of the block.  

“Our desire is to preserve the historic nature of the site and return the building’s facade to its original design.”

S&H’s local office has ballooned to 13 licensed personnel and has also added a commercial real estate and property management division.  Based in Augusta, GA Sherman & Hemstreet has been providing full-service real estate solutions to eastern Georgia for nearly 100 years.
