SPRINGFIELD -- The City of Guyton has appointed Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie as interim Police Chief as of Jan. 28.

This appointment will remain in place until the position of police chief is filled permanently. 

The hiring process for a permanent police chief has been underway for several months and is expected to conclude within approximate 30 days. 

Former interim Police Chief Joseph Capolla has reassumed his position as sergeant.
