Former South Effingham softball standout Alex Brown, now a freshman at the University of North Carolina, smacked her first collegiate home run in a 15-8 loss to North Carolina State on Saturday.

Going into Sunday’s play, Brown has started 22 of UNC’s 31 games while hitting .232 with a home run and 12 runs batted in. In the first two games of the series with State, she is 4-for-8 with a homer and six RBIs.
