South Effingham sweeps Vidalia with soccer shutouts

The South Effingham boys and girls opened their soccer seasons with shutout victories over Vidalia last Friday.

The boys won 4-0 and the girls breezed 8-0.

Cole Hoffman, River Sosniak-Knight, Bailey Poppell and J.P. Alonso scored for the boys. Chase Hoffman and Dylan Letourneau combined on the shutout.

The Mustangs boys and girls will host Bryan County in a doubleheader Tuesday and have a doubleheader scheduled with Islands on Friday. 

Effingham County’s boys topped Savannah Arts 1-0 in their Jan. 25 season opener. Javier Espin scored the goal and freshman goalie Michael Deien registered a shutout in his first outing.

The Rebel girls lost to Savannah Arts 1-0 on a late second-half goal.

ECHS’ boys and girls will be back in action Friday at home against Metter.
