GUYTON -- Effingham County clinched a season-opening baseball series win Wednesday night by beating South Effingham 8-3 at The Corral.

The Rebels, who took Monday's opener 3-2 , will go for a sweep Friday at 6 p.m. at Rebel Field.

In Wednesday's game, winning pitcher Avery Elenbaas went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and two runs. Frequently using a slow curveball, he notched seven strikeouts.

The Rebels only collected five hits against three pitchers but capitalized on eight walks and a couple of hit batsmen. The Mustangs also committed multiple errors in the early frames.

Austin Mealor  and Jordan Rahn got the Rebels' lone extra-base hits. Both were doubles.

Rahn's two-bagger drove in Christian Campbell and Ryan Harley in the final inning.

Josh Berg stroked a double for the Mustangs.
