The South Effingham Middle School softball team rolled to a pair of playoff wins to advance to the region championship game.

In their region playoff opener, the Lady Mustangs jumped out to an early lead on William James Middle School and captured a 17-2 victory at SEMS. South Effingham put the game away early with 17 runs in the first three innings.

In the second playoff game, Kastin Belogorska threw a no-hitter to lead South Effingham to a 9-1 victory over Effingham County Middle School.

Cason Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate for the Lady Mustangs. She homered in the first inning, and a three-base error following her single in the third allowed her to circle the bases again. Smith’s two runs gave SEMS a 2-0 lead through the first three innings.

South Effingham had nine hits against ECMS, including four for extra bases. Cheyenne Miller tripled home two runs in the fourth, and an error on the play brought her home as well.

The Lady Mustangs increased their lead with three runs in the fifth. Georgia Dowling started the inning with a double, scoring Mallori Jenkins, and SEMS pulled away to punch its ticket to the championship game.
