Brevlow named to deans list

Lindsay Drevlow of Rincon has been named to the dean’s list at Piedmont College after completing the recent spring semester with a grade-point average of 3.5 to 3.99

Piedmont College is an independent liberal arts college of about 2,000 students with campuses located in Demorest and Athens. Founded in 1897, the college offers undergraduate degrees in 32 major areas and master’s degrees in education and business.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
