From Sept. 12-16 the ECHS Youth Advisory Council, along with the Interact Club and Family Connection Communities and Schools, sponsored an After Labor Day Food Drive benefitting the Food Outreach Co-op of Effingham (FORCE). They collected 1,500 nonperishable goods to help FORCE restock local food pantries.
The food pantries were running low on food as, in tough economic times, more people were utilizing the pantries and giving was stagnant in months without major holidays such as Christmas or Thanksgiving. Cathy Zipperer, the YAC advisor, said that they hope to have these food drives once a quarter to help restock the pantries during off months.
Miranda Clayter’s special education class, a group of 13 students, won a casserole breakfast for bringing the most canned goods, 275 cans.
