School system gets comforting numbers

After a shaky start to fiscal year 2011, the Effingham school system reported promising numbers from tax collections at its Nov. 3 meeting.

Although the September financial report presented at the meeting showed only $307,143 collected, Ron Wilson, finance director of the Effingham school district, told the board that October brought in $800,000 and that the first two days of November were particularly encouraging. Nov. 2 saw $1.276 million collected, and on the morning of the meeting, an additional $1.316 million was collected. Wilson said year-to-date collections were at $4.327 million as of Nov. 3.

This leaves the BoE uncollected balance at $21.626 million whereas the end of September showed just over $25 million in the same line.
