First Baptist Church of Rincon hosted the Missionary Commissioning Service of the North American Mission Board, Southern Baptist Convention on Feb. 22.

One hundred and forty-four new missionaries and chaplains were commissioned to serve in a variety of capacities, from a church planter in Montreal, Canada, to inner-city ministries in the Bronx, N.Y., to a U.S. Army chaplain at Fort Stewart.

Young people from local Baptist churches brought in the 67 flags of the United States, Canadian provinces and territories. The First Baptist Church of Rincon choirs, praise band and orchestra brought the special music. The message was brought by Dr. Geoff Hammond, president of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Each missionary shared briefly about their location of service, and a special prayer was led by Barbara Curnutt, director of the Georgia Baptist Woman's Missionary Union.

Worshipers who arrived early heard pre-service music by the Faulkville Baptist Hispanic Praise Band and the Savannah Baptist Korean Church Choir.
