On Sept. 21, the congregation of First Baptist Church of Rincon voted “yes” by approximately 97 percent to contract with Pope Construction to build a new $3.5 million children’s and preschool ministry building and pave a new parking lot around it.

It will be a two-story building with a second floor connection to the Memorial Chapel and current children’s building. It will have 17 new classrooms plus a large children’s church room, and is expected to take a year to build.

FBC Rincon plans to have a groundbreaking on Homecoming Sunday, Nov. 2. Also, the homecoming offering will go toward the building fund.

After the vote was announced, children from the children’s church marched into the worship center wearing hard hats, ready to get started, to the applause of the congregation.

Freddy Long is chairman of the building committee. Dr. Bob Rogers is pastor.
