SAVANNAH — In the heart of its 2008 Summer theatre season, the Armstrong Atlantic State University Department of Art, Music and Theatre (AASU AMT) presents Jane Martin’s backstage spoof “Anton in Show Business.”

Opening the show July 10, AMT will present two weekends of performances in the cozy setting of AASU’s Masquers Chinese Theater (MCT) at Armstrong Center.

Anton in Show Business: Living the dream! Three actresses hysterically stumble through the backstage politics, adversities, and “artistic differences” that make and break American theatre. See how “Anton in Show Business” conveys the joys, pains, and absurdities of “putting on a play” in a way that will make first-time theatre-goers and seasoned actors, alike, “laugh out loud.”

Performances: “Anton in Show Business” runs July 10-13 and July 17-20. Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday matinées begin at 3 p.m.  Limited Seating; advance ticketing is highly recommended. General admission: only $10. Audience discretion is advised. If tickets are available at the door, AASU students with valid AASU I.D. will be admitted for free. Call (912) 344-2556 for more information.

The Masquers Chinese Theater (MCT), located in Armstrong Center (13040 Abercorn St., Savannah), has served as the temporary home for the Masquers, AASU’s student theatre troupe, for six months now and will continue to host AASU theatre performances until renovation of Jenkins Hall, AASU AMT’s permanent theatre home, is complete this fall.

As an homage to the famous Hollywood Boulevard movie theatre known for red carpet events, “A-list” celebrity sidewalk hand prints, and a spectacular Chinese architecture exterior design, the theatre program has converted a vacated Chinese Buffet Restaurant into a welcoming black box theatre environment. Parking is convenient, and the building is wheelchair accessible.
