Boros own Smith to perform in Statesboro

STATESBORO — Internationally revered musician and Statesboro’s own Roderick A. Smith will perform Friday at 9 p.m. at the Zone Bar & Grill, located at 201 Johnson St., in downtown Statesboro.

He will be accompanied by his live quartet, as well as live singers such as American Idol finalist Stephanie Edwards.

Smith, a 1971 graduate of Statesboro High School, has performed with internationally known artists such as Gladys Knight, Barry White, Natalie Cole, The Temptations and TLC. Smith has recorded with Dallas Austin, The Williams Brothers, Ce-Lo, and Goode Mob, and written and performed music for television (“The Cosby Show”), TV commercials and movies/films.

Smith has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors such as: Martin Luther King Achievement Award, Statesboro High School’s Distinguished Alumnus Award, Morehouse College Honor Graduate, SIAC Conference Director of the Year, Duke Ellington Lecturer for the 1996 Olympics, and Outstanding Men of America.

Advanced tickets are $15 for individuals and $25 for couples, which will include complementary drinks and eateries. Reserved tables, which seat eight, are $100.

Special dinners will also be available. Tickets can be purchased from the Zone Bar & Grill (Monday-Friday 4-10 p.m. and Saturday 1-10 p.m.), various supporting locations, or by calling (912) 531-2973.

The attire for this event is business casual. Decorations will be handled by Ranco Tents.
