Having your hair look good and keeping it healthy seem to be two conflicting battles. If your hair could use a little extra love, try these nine tricks to get the gorgeous shine you (and really every girl) wants.

1. Get rid of build up

Hair products can work wonders for your hair, but they also create buildup. To get back some of your hairs natural glow, youll need to remove that buildup with a clarifying shampoo. Some clarifying shampoos strip your hair too much, but the Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo deeply cleans without stripping the life out of your hair.

2. Pick the right shampoo

If your hair has been dyed recently, clarifying shampoos can strip the color, so try the gentle (but amazing) Schwarzkopf BC Oil Miracle Potion. It will help with luster without harming the color.

Buy it here.

3. Rinse your hair with cold water after a shower

Blast your hair with a cold water rinse for a few seconds before you get out of the shower. This will help seal in your conditioner and give it a good shine.

4. Use a shine spray

Some hair types are just naturally shinier than others. While straight hair has natural shine from the highly-reflective flat cuticle, curly or wavy hair tends to not have as much natural shine. You can fix this by using a shine spray, like the highly recommended Redken Shine Flash 02.

Buy it here.

5. Pick the right brush

Maybe you havent thought much about what youre brushing your hair with, but its a big deal. A brush with natural bristles spreads natural oils through your hair, which delivers that pretty sheen all around.

Buy a rounded brush here, or a flat boar bristle brush here.

6. Deep condition once a week

You can invest in a soothing deep conditioner, like the well loved Joico K-PAK Revitaluxe, or if youre on a tight budget, spread warm coconut oil through your hair before you shower, and let it soak in for 30 minutes before washing it out.

Buy the Joico K-Pak revitaluxe here, or you can buy coconut oil here.

7. Pick the right product if youre going to let it towel dry

Towel-drying is great, because it avoids being damaged from the heat of the blow dryer, but it also makes your hair frizzier. Try a smoothing serum like John Frieda Frizz-Ease to tame your frizz as your hair naturally dries.

8. Lightly spray your brush with hairspray to handle fly-aways

If youre going for a quick fix, spray a tiny bit of hairspray on your brush before you comb your hair to give it a sleeker look.

9. Dye your hair with a semi permanent gloss

You can dye your hair with a clear gloss such as the Sebastian Cellophanes for fantastic shine.... but just know silicon products create a lot of buildup on your hair, which can lead to breakage.
