Vintage B-17 to visit Savannah

The “Yankee Lady,” a fully restored, vintage B-17 bomber, will be visiting Savannah. This B-17 Flying Fortress will be open to the public for viewing and flights will be available from noon until sunset on Oct. 29-30.

The aircraft’s visit is to commemorate the reunions of the 486th and 487th Bomb Groups at the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum this weekend. To see the “Yankee Lady” go to Signature Flight Support at 1001 Davidson Dr. off Dean Forest Road. Walk through tours of the war bird are available for $5 an adult, $2 a child and free for active duty military, Scouts and Children under 6 years old. Flights will be available to the public for $425 per person.

The Mighty 8th Air Force Museum is restoring a World War II B-17 bomber the “City of Savannah” inside of the Museum. The 2nd annual “Flying Fortress 5K” will be held Nov. 12 at 8:30 a.m. to benefit the restoration of the Museum’s aircraft.
