An 8-year-old child was airlifted to a Savannah hospital with serious injuries after a Saturday morning crash, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Initial reports indicate the driver of a 2008 Nissan Altima was headed east on Courthouse Road when it failed to yield to another 2008 Nissan Altima heading south on Little McCall Road. The vehicles collided, and an 8-year-old passenger in the Altima traveling on Little McCall Road was injured.

LifeStar flew the child to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. The child’s mother suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Altima on Courthouse Road was cited for failure to yield.
