Daniel Robert Oliver of Guyton has graduated from Navy basic training at Great Lakes, Ill.

Oliver, the son of Michele and Richard H. Oliver Sr. of Guyton, is the maternal grandson of Mary Ann and James Whitcomb Miller also of Guyton, and the paternal grandson of Catherine and the late Robert Asbury Oliver of Deale, Md.

Oliver was selected as the starboard watch section leader of his graduating class and was awarded as an honor graduate as his family and fiancé were in attendance. He is a 2006 graduate of South Effingham High School and was involved in the JROTC program there for three years, graduating with a dual seal with distinction.

Oliver will spend 18 months in Charleston, S.C., where he will be trained to become a nuclear electrician with hopes to be stationed eventually at Kings Bay.
