Robert Brantley announced Monday that he is a candidate for the 1st District Effingham County commissioner seat.

Brantley has been an Effingham resident for 26 years. He has been in real estate for more than 20 years and is a member of the Savannah Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. He is the broker/owner of Heritage Properties and is the associate broker for ReMAX Crossroads in Pooler.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and also served in the National Guard.

Brantley said he looks forward to serving the 1st District and believes his experience for the past 20 years dealing with the public gives him insight into the needs of the residents and taxpayers of the county. His goals are to bring industry, commercial growth and tax relief to the residents.

He and his wife Cathy have been married for eight years, and they have four sons and eight grandchildren.

The 1st District seat is currently held by Hubert Sapp, but Sapp does not intend to seek re-election.
