In celebration of Farm-City week Nov. 19-25, the Effingham County Farm Bureau held a food drive for local food banks. During the month of November, Farm Bureau collected non-perishable food items from the community to donate to FORCE, Food Out Reach Cooperative of Effingham County.
As donations were received, names were entered into a drawing to win a prize given by a local business. Local businesses that participated include JoAnn’s Florist, Bashlor’s Automotive Services, Rincon Chiropractic, Pizza Chef, Kelly’s Tavern, Merle Norman Cosmetics, Lovett’s Hardware & Supply, Glaze Beauty Boutique, Cuttin Up Hair Salon, Thompson Chiropractic, Leapin Lizards, and Lost Plantation. A grand prize of $100 prepaid Visa gift card was awarded.
In addition to the food donated by the community, Effingham County Farm Bureau also donated $500 to FORCE to distribute among all the local food banks.
Farm-City Week celebrates the cooperative relationship between farmers and their urban colleagues who help process, market and retail the food farmers grow to the American consumer. This year marks the 55th anniversary of the annual celebration.
