How do head honchos in Georgia companies stay on the right side of discrimination and compensation laws? By realizing that following federal regulations is just the first step in being a law-abiding corporate citizen.
Bosses, human resource directors and other managers can learn about relevant state laws at a Legal Awareness in the Workplace seminar in Savannah.
“Georgia Employment Law” will be held on Sept. 20 at the Coastal Georgia Center. The seminar will run from 6-7:30 p.m.
Sponsored by Georgia Southern University, the seminar will be taught by Jennifer Dickenson, an attorney for the employment law firm of Hunter, Maclean, Exley and Dunn, P.C.
Participants will learn about a wide range of Georgia employment law topics, including the creation of at-will and contract employment, negligent supervision/retention of employees, defamation in the context of employment references, and workplace privacy.
The LAW series will continue with “New Hire Documentation” on Oct. 18 in Savannah, “Hostile Work Environment: A Case Review” on Nov. 13 in Brunswick and “Hot Topics in Employment Law” on Dec. 13 in Savannah.
The fee for each seminar is $69 per person. The fee will be reduced to $59 for anyone who signs up for three or more seminars, and for groups of three or more people from the same firm.
