A Savannah man is in the Effingham County Jail after sheriff’s deputies discovered a large amount of marijuana on his person as he was going to bond his brother out of jail.

Thursday afternoon, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle as it was about to pull into the Effingham County Jail for a minor traffic violation.

As the deputy investigated, he observed a drug related object and marijuana inside of the vehicle.

The front seat passenger, Henry Lee Adkins 30, of Savannah, advised deputies he was going into the jail to post bond for his brother who had been arrested earlier on unrelated charges. During a search, deputies found 27 bags of marijuana inside Adkins underwear.

Adkins was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug related objects.

The driver, Jamel Mells, 28, of Savannah, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug related objects, driving with a suspended license as well as other traffic related charges.

Mells and Adkins are both being held in the Effingham County Jail.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
