An anonymous tip has led to the arrest of a wanted felon.

Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jonathan Gaines, 34, of Clyo, at a home on Teal Drive in Springfield on Tuesday night. The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office asked for the public’s assistance last week in finding Gaines.

Gaines has an extensive criminal history and had several outstanding warrants for his arrest including theft by taking, theft by deception and probation violation. He served two prior short sentences for drug-related offenses and was booked on eight counts of misdemeanor theft by taking, two charges of felony theft by deception and two probation violation charges.

He is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail without bond.
