ECSO investigating death of 5-month-old

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 5-month-old girl over the weekend.

According to the ECSO, deputies responded to a home on Appaloosa Way around 4 p.m. Saturday for a report of a child not breathing.

The child was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

The case is currently being investigated by the Effingham County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division.

An autopsy will be performed Tuesday at the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah, Ehsanipoor said.
