Effingham UDC chapter to host Confederate Memorial Day

The Effingham Hussars Chapter No. 2285 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will host Effingham County’s annual Confederate Memorial Day program on Sunday at 4 p. m. This remembrance will he held at the Confederate burial section of the Guyton Cemetery. 

The Effingham United Daughters of the Confederacy is the oldest organization for female descendants of Confederate soldiers in Effingham County. The program will include recollections of Effingham County’s past and Civil War re-enactors. 

The guest speaker on this occasion will be Robert Shig Porter II, historian and curator of the Savannah Cotton Exchange and Museum. Porter will speak on the subject of “Hardship and Heroism: The Story of Sherman’s March Through Effingham.”
