The single-car crash happened on McCall Road near Ralph Rahn Road shortly before 9:30 p.m., according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office. The car “crashed in the woods” and the driver was thrown from the vehicle, said ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

The man, whose name has not been released, was airlifted to Memorial Health Medical Center with injuries described as life-threatening. He was in critical condition at last report.

“A short time before this crash, a vehicle matching the description of this car was described as being involved in a hit-and-run on McCall Road at Highway 21,” Ehsanipoor said.

The crash remains under investigation by the ECSO and Georgia State Patrol.
