Four members of the Armstrong Atlantic State University softball squad have been named to the 2011 Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference squad.

Juniors April Jowers, Baillie Temples and Ashley Buckett join sophomore Shelby Duff on the 12-person squad, voted on by league head coaches. The four honorees are the most for any Peach Belt school on the squad and are also the most for Armstrong on one team since the league began selecting preseason All-Peach Belt Conference squads.

Duff was a freshman All-Conference and All-Region honoree for the Pirates as a utility player, splitting time in the circle and playing the outfield. The Springfield native hit .310 with 11 doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs while going 10-5 as a pitcher with two saves and a 3.00 ERA.

Jowers hit .421 as a sophomore for the Pirates in 2010, the second-highest batting average in Armstrong softball history. The second baseman set the school single-season stolen base record with 26 and led the Peach Belt in hits with 75 a season ago. The Columbus native was a first-team All-Conference and second-team All-Region honoree.

Temples improved upon a stellar debut season with a breakout sophomore campaign in 2010, hitting .353 with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs - just one home run off the Armstrong single-season record. The Midland native third baseman earned All-Conference and All-Region honors while ranking in the top 10 in the Peach Belt in home runs, batting average, slugging percentage, runs, hits, total bases and RBI.

Buckett is the catcher on the preseason squad after earning second-team All-Conference honors a season ago. The Snellville native hit .293 with five home runs and 20 RBIs and also threw out 41 percent of potential basestealers, while leading the Peach Belt in runners picked off.
