Former Effingham County High School player Tovar Allen has signed a free agent contract with the NFL’s Washington Redskins.

Allen, a 6-foot-6, 315-pound lineman who played for four years at Alabama State, was signed following the Redskins’ rookie minicamp.

Allen played in 36 games, starting 24, at Alabama State. He started in 22 games during his sophomore and junior seasons and was named to the College Sports Madness all-Southwest Athletic Conference second team following his junior campaign.

Allen also played in six games as a freshman in 2011.
