Jags take state title
Team wins first state football championship for ECRP
1217 ecrp jags

The Effingham County Recreation and Parks 10-and-under Jaguars beat Calhoun 46-26 Saturday in Calhoun for the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association state championship.

The Jags finished the season 21-0 and claimed the South Georgia Youth Football League championship, the Rebel Bowl in Garden City, the Super Bowl of Brunswick, the Cracker Bowl, the GRPA 1st District championship and the GRPA South Georgia state title.

The state crown is the first for any ECRP football team.

“Thanks to everyone who supported this team this year,” said ECRP director Clarence Morgan. “We had great support all year especially in Thomson, Cordele and Calhoun. I am mighty proud of these young men, coaches and their families. Recognition for this team is just beginning and super deserving.”

The Jaguars outscored their opposition 772-117 over the season.

“Our coaches pushed these young men to a high level of competition and each one of them bought into the team concept,” said head coach Yancy Ford. “We asked each of them to move our team from good to great; not only on the football field, but in everything they do in life. The coaching staff is grateful to the parents for their continued support through this four-and-a-half-month season, the Effingham County Recreation Department staff for allowing us to represent our community, and to the players of our Jags team for staying in formation and finishing the drill.”
