The Springfield City Council appointed Jeff Ambrose to fill the remainder of Ron Boatright’s term Tuesday.

Ambrose and Springfield Fire Chief Bubba Rahn were nominated for the appointment.

“Bubba Rahn had indicated an interest, and I think it’s good that we have more than one person in this community that shows an interest in this,” Councilman Butch Kieffer said.

Mayor Barton Alderman said he thought the interest was fantastic.

“I would like to bring up to both of you gentlemen, whichever one isn’t chosen tonight qualifying is until Friday,” he said.

“I don’t think we can lose tonight,” Kieffer said.

Councilmen Max Niedlinger, Kenny Usher and Charles Hinely voted to appoint Ambrose. Councilmen Kieffer and Dennis Webb voted to appoint Rahn.

“I think we have a good council all the way around,” Alderman said.

Ambrose said he has lived in Springfield a little more than three years in order to live closer to his family.

“I kinda wanted to throw my hat in the ring for a while to get a taste of it and see what it’s like,” he said, “hopefully make some good decisions for the city and make some improvements.”

Ambrose said he would like to see overall improvements in the city, including increasing businesses and attracting business to downtown.

“I want the city to maintain a great atmosphere,” he said. “It’s a great city for kids.”

He said he would like to attract great people to Springfield by showcasing the positive atmosphere the city already has.

Ambrose will be sworn in at the next council meeting.
