Jeff Kublin, a resident of Rincon since 1996, has announced his candidacy for a seat on the Rincon City Council in this coming November’s election.

With a theme of “Keep Going Forward,” Kublin looks at the tremendous progress that the city has made since the election of Mayor Ken Lee and three new council members less than two years ago.

“The citizens of Rincon spoke very clearly and in record-setting numbers at the polls in 2005 that a new direction was needed in our city’s government,” said Kublin, adding, “Now that an election is coming up for other seats on the council, we have to be sure that we keep going forward.”

Kublin is well-known in the community, particularly for his Web site design business and his involvement in several civic organizations. With his son Scott, he co-founded InterWeb Designs, Inc. Between them, they have designed, maintained and hosted hundreds of professional-quality Web sites.

He has also been extensively involved in Rotary, having served as president of the Rotary Club of Effingham County in 2003-2004, and he currently serves as assistant Rotary district governor. He was the recipient of the Rotarian of the Year award from the local club this past year. He also has been an Ambassador for the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce.

The city has grown phenomenally in the 11 years that he has lived here. Kublin recalls that Highway 21 hardly had any traffic on it when he first arrived in town, now indicating that people take their lives into their own hands just trying to get across the street. For those who commute, it can seemingly take forever to drive toward I-95 in the morning or to come home to Rincon in the afternoon.

“It’s great to have new commercial businesses coming to our community, to provide a lot of conveniences and to help minimize the tax burden on the citizens,” Kublin said. “I look forward to more restaurants and recreational ventures coming here. But we need to be sure that our growth is properly managed and the necessary infrastructure put in place so that it doesn’t lessen the quality of life that we currently enjoy.”
