Pair nabbed in drug bust

More than 40 pounds of marijuana and other items were discovered during Monday's drug bust.

SPRINGFIELD --  More than 40 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $120,000 is in law enforcement custody after a six-month investigation. 

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit recovered marijuana, THC, oils and edibles after searching a home in the 100 block of Willow Street on Monday morning. 

Two people, 25-year-old Ira Dylan Welsh and 26-year-old Ashley Swindell, were arrested and charged with multiple drug related charges. Both were transported to the Effingham County Jail where they remain at this hour.

 Welsh  is charged with trafficking in marijuana, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Swindell is charged with trafficking in marijuana, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
