Two seniors from the Armstrong Atlantic State University softball NCAA Division II semifinalist squad earned honors to wrap up the Pirates’ 2013 season.

Senior outfielder Shelby Duff was named to the 2013 DII Softball Championships all-tournament team with the conclusion of the championships.

Duff, an Effingham County High School graduate, hit .500 and slugged 1.000 with two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored while also winning the Pirates’ 5-3 game over Humboldt State in the circle with three innings of one-run ball.

Central Oklahoma took the DII title with a 5-2 extra-inning win over Kutztown.

Meanwhile, senior pitcher Megan Barnwell was named an honorable mention DII All-American pitcher by Daktronics and CoSIDA over the weekend. Barnwell went 27-6 in 2013 with a 2.05 ERA in 2013, tying the school career record for wins with 86 with her 7-5 victory over Valdosta State in the DII Championships on Saturday. It is the first All-American honor for Barnwell in her career.
