CHARLESTON, S.C.—Gabby Houston has been named the Charleston Southern University female athlete of the year for 2012-13.

Houston captured both the 100 meter and 200 meter titles at the Big South Outdoor Track Championships last week, setting a CSU and Big South Championship record in the 200 meters. She is also the conference record holder in the 100 meters.

Houston’s time of 11.47 seconds set a conference meet record and is the sixth-best time in the NCAA outdoor season East region. She set another conference mark with her time of 23.45 in the 200.

Houston, an Effingham County High School grad, has earned a spot in next month’s NCAA East Regional and will be among the favorites to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in late May in both the 100 and 200.

In the indoor season, the senior took second in both the 60-meter dash and 200 meters, setting the conference meet record in the prelims of the 60 meters.

She was named the 2012 Big South Women of the Year as a junior after reaching the NCAA Championships and finishing 18th nationally in the 200 meters.
