The Sports Network announced its 2013 preseason all-America teams Monday,  with junior running back Dominique Swope and junior offensive tackle Garrett Frye representing Georgia Southern on its first and second teams, respectively.

Swope became the Eagles’ first back-to-back 1,000-yard rusher since Jermaine Austin in 2002-03, and finished the 2012 season with 1,246 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Frye was selected a third-team all-American by the Associated Press and The Sports Network last season, helping Georgia Southern to its ninth NCAA rushing title in 2012 with a 399.4 yards-per-game average.

One of only four sophomores to appear in the 2012 NCAA FCS top 25 rushing list, Swope earned first team All-America honors from College Sports Journal and ranked in the Southern Conference’s top five for rushing and scoring.  He tallied six 100-yard games and is poised to break into Georgia Southern’s career top 10 for rushing yards (2,269).

Frye started all 14 games in 2012 at tackle and played 94 percent of the snaps at that position. He registered the second-most knockdowns during the regular season with 72 and had double-digit totals against Elon in the regular season and Old Dominion in the playoffs.

Georgia Southern opens the 2013 campaign Aug. 31 with Savannah State at 6 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now and fans may select their seats through the online system at GSEagles.com/tickets. Purchases in some sections may require a donation to the Georgia Southern Athletic Foundation.
