SPRINGFIELD -- Effingham County introduced its new head football coach Friday afternoon.

John Ford, most recently the defensive coordinator at Bleckley County, was greeted warmly by players, faculty and fans in the school's gym lobby. He was hired by a unanimous vote by the Effingham County Board of Education on Thursday.

A Snellville native and Clemson graduate, Ford, 40, has been a head coach before, posting a combined 61-17 mark at Buford (2017-18) and Roswell (2013-16). His last two Roswell teams finished as the Class AAAAAAA runner-up to Colquitt County and Grayson, respectively.

Ford's peers named him the Region 5-AAAAAAA coach of the year in 2017 and the Region 5-AAAAAA coach of the year in 2015.

The new Rebels' leader has a wife, Ann, and three daughters.
