The South Effingham Lady Mustangs got their season off to a strong start with a 44-37 win over Claxton in their basketball season opener Tuesday.
The Lady Mustangs jumped out to a 7-1 lead behind a 3-pointer and a pullup jumper from sophomore Katie Durrence before the Lady Tigers cut the lead to 7-5.
South Effingham eventually took an 11-5 lead into the second quarter.
Whitney Jones had 13 points, and Durrence and Candice Kennedy each had 10 points for the Lady Mustangs.
