SCPS goes on the road for second round

The Savannah Christian Red Raiders will travel to the “The City of Roses” on Friday to take on the Thomasville Bulldogs in the second round of the Class AA state football playoffs.

The Red Raiders overcame an 18-point deficit in the second quarter to beat Toombs County in the first round last Friday. The Red Raiders (10-1) outgained the Bulldogs 351-193 as Russell DeMasi ran for one touchdown and threw for another and Chris Barnwell had two touchdowns.

Barnwell finished with 120 yards rushing on 23 carries. Tyler Sumner added a 5-yard TD run and caught three passes for 83 yards. Brandon Sumner led the defense with nine tackles, seven of them solo.

Thomasville (9-2) beat Laney 24-0 after ending the regular season with a 23-0 victory over Early County. The Bulldogs have won nine straight games with four shutouts and are averaging 35.2 points per game during their winning streak.
