Effingham County High School Competition Cheerleaders were awarded 2010 Region 2AAAA runner-up at the region cheerleading competition at West Laurens High School on Nov. 6.
 
First place went to Evans High School, with Ware County placing third and Greenbrier placing fourth. All four teams will advance to the state competition in Columbus.
 
Team members include: Tori Pippin, Cassidy Henry, Brooke Johnson, Taylor Price, Kyndle Calhoun, Meaghan Crowley, Abi Johnson, Dana Brown, Mandy Roberts, Doneshia Kennedy, Alissa Kelly, Nikki Hamilton, Kendall Claxton, Caitlyn Fears, Kellie Badger, Mallory Ansel, Michelle Pratt, and Mattie Saxon. The team is coached by Katie Ward.
Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
