A former female jailer at the Effingham County Jail alleged to have had improper contact with an inmate was arrested by sheriff’s investigators Tuesday afternoon.
Jessica Edenfield, 29, of Guyton, has been charged with one count of sexual assault against a person in custody. She was fired as a jailer last month during the investigation of the incident.
Sheriff’s officials say that their investigation revealed Edenfield was having sexual relations with a jail inmate.
“We will not tolerate any behavior which is not in accordance with our professional standards,” Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie said. “Any employee at this office found to be in violation of Georgia law will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
